Statistical significance

Rejection of the null hypothesis that the test population is the same as the null distribution, at a predetermined level of significance. This is a demonstration that the probability that a pattern of variation occurred by chance alone is less than a particular value (commonly 5%, or p<0.05, or p<.01, or p<0.001 depending level of rigor and variation in the system).
