there are 60 species of snakes in Madagascar, of which 6 genera are poisonous. Locals tend to fear all snakes, but even the venomous varieties are rear-fanged and cannot harm people unless a finger is deliberately stuck into their mouths. Boas, called "do", are the most commonly seen varieties, and one variety is patterned with an astonishing blue.
